BRIGHTON & HOVE LOVE YOUR BIKE WEEK

Brighton Bike Hub Launch

Brighton’s second Love Your Bike Week is being celebrated at FIELD, Preston Barracks, over February half term, as Brighton Bike Hub and Remade in Brighton host a raft of free cycling themed activities from 11-18 February 2017.

Brighton Bike Hub, who provide DIY community cycle workshops year-round, want to help young cyclists prepare their bikes for Spring and Summer, by encouraging children to visit them to learn how to look after their bikes, and also improve their cycling skills by tackling a purpose-built assault course.

Local author, Catherine Bruzzone, will also be on site for a day with her bicycle themed publication, My Book of Bike Activities, encouraging children to get creative and have fun, whilst also learning about bikes.

Makers from Remade in Brighton have parked their pop-up caravan at FIELD. They will be holding workshops to demonstrate ideas for utilising upcycled materials to design and remake cyclist safety wear from old hi-vis materials and inner tubes, before combining the upcycled items with new technology, to ensure cyclists stay safe and have efficient lighting incorporated into their cycling wear.

Duncan Blinkhorn, who runs the volunteer-led Bike Hub, said: “There is always lots happening at FIELD, as they provide a base for local organisations, businesses and people to work together and exchange ideas. We are delighted to be hosting these free bicycle events again, so that children and their families can visit FIELD and learn more about bicycles and cycling”.

FIELD at Preston Barracks was established by U+I to inform a clear vision of what Brighton & Hove’s diverse entrepreneurial community needs from a potential permanent facility, which is part of the proposed redevelopment of Preston Barracks.

Brighton’s first Love Your Bike Week in 2013 was declared a success after over 1000 people participated in special activities at Circus Street Market, including group bike rides, workshops and The Spin free fun day on Saturday, where bike-related entertainments were on offer.
